SCHOOL CURRICULUM

Technology lessonOur curriculum at Cwmtawe is exciting and dynamic, providing a broad range of courses that are accessible and appropriate for all our students. These comply with all the requirements of the National Curriculum in Wales.

Key Stage 3 (11-14)
Pupils study a wide range of subjects at KS3 which include English, Maths, Science, Welsh, PE, Information Technology, PSHE, RE, Art, Drama, French, Geography, German, History, Music and Technology.

During February each year, our Year 9 pupils receive support and guidance when selecting their options at Key Stage 4 which they study to GCSE level (or equivalent). The school is quite unique in that we allow pupils to commence their GCSE studies towards the end of Year 9 which gives a welcome boost to their achievement at Key Stage 4.

Languages lessonKey Stage 4 (14-16)
The subjects on offer include the core of English, Maths, Science, Welsh, PE/Games, PSHE and RE which are all compulsory. These are supplemented by a wide range of GCSE courses from Business Studies to Resistant Materials. In addition, we offer a number of vocational and applied courses such as Applied Leisure and Tourism and Applied Art (both Double Award).

Key Skills
The development of key skills within our pupils occurs across the range of subjects where it is seamlessly embedded in their studies at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. The skills developed include communication, application of number, IT, working with others, improving own learning and performance and problem solving.

More information on subjects can be found in the annual options booket available from the downloads section.
