SCHOOL INFORMATION

Pupils using ICTCwmtawe was originally created as a comprehensive school in 1969 by combining all the secondary schools in the area. It was moved into purpose built premises in 1996 and now benefits from accomodation and facilities which are second to none. We currently have 1192 pupils on roll with many year groups oversubscribed.

Over the past ten years, the school has gone from strength to strength exceeding both National and Local Education Authority levels. In fact, data provided by Yellis places Cwmtawe within the top 5% of schools in the UK for value added and as a result Cwmtawe was presented with the prestigious ACCAC award for 'Most Improved School' during 2005.

Pupils receiving GCSE resultsPupil Achievements
We are immensely proud of the achievements of our young people. During the 2007 examinations, 76% of our students achieved 5 or more A*-C grades which is well above Local Authority, Welsh and National averages. More importantly, 98% of our pupils achieved 5 or more A*-G grades.

Our staff and pupils work closely during Year 11 to ensure individual students have every opportunity to meet their potential. Just about every department operates 'Out of School Hours' learning opportunities and this results in outstanding results and 'value added', more detail of which can be viewed in our prospectus.

School CateringHealthy Eating
Our well equipped catering unit provides a selection of hot and cold food during breaktime and lunchtime. The school is committed to healthy eating and strives to educate pupils about the benefits of adopting a balanced and healthy diet. Our lunchtime menu is available to view within the downloads section.

Disability Equality
Cwmtawe is a fully inclusive school and being a relatively new building it is fully equipped to cater for the majority of physical disabilities. We also benefit from a dedicated Dyslexia Unit and Autistic Unit, both of which aim to ensure that pupils receive the support they need to achieve their potential. If you wish to discuss any aspect of our disability policies or access arrangements, please contact the headteacher for an appointment.

A copy of our full prospectus is available by contacting the school or from the downloads section.
